Medical Services
Medical services has been my pathway since freshman year, although I didn't start taking any course until my sophomore year. The first course I took was Exploring Health Careers, it was about learning the basics of medicine, of different careers you can pursue when in medical services. It goes way back to the roots of medicine, it helps you to prepare yourself when actually exploring a career and to learn the values of each job. After I took that course, I took Physiology. Physiology is the study of the normal functions of any living organism. We learned every system in the human body, from the digestive system to the cardiovascular/respiratory system. It's a long process learning all the systems and the systems within those systems, learning the bones by name and each viable organ. I am currently taking Psychology, which is the study of the mind. Working with the brain and how memory, thought process, and even cognitive skills occur is a big key in medicine. You have to be able to care for your patients both physically and mentally, that's why I chose to take both courses instead of just one. Simultaneously, I'm also taking a CNA (certified nursing assistant) class. I want to be able to get a job in the medical field right out of high school and gain experience for when I go to a four year university and expand my career even further. My pathway has been so much help, not only because I need it for my career, but because I love learning about the mind and body, being able to know how the human body works.
