The Beginning of Chapter Twelve
August 15, 2016 was the beginning of an end in my high school career. I’ve waited so long for this moment to arrive and now that it’s here it terrifies and excites me at the same time. Even though I’m a senior and I’ve spent almost four years at Lindsay High School, I still feel as nervous as a freshman arriving to this school for the first time. Walking through those front gates made me realize I am now a senior, this is my year to graduate and experience something other than what’s within these four walls.
Being a senior means you have a lot of tasks to be able to graduate, for example my senior project. What really excites me about my senior project is doing my Job Shadow, which I’m currently working on. I’ve scheduled my job shadow with a learning facilitator at Jefferson Elementary to observe and follow her for around for 4-6 hours. I will ask her questions about her career and see if I’m interested to follow in her footsteps after high school. I’ve also been working on my journals for my Weebly website, designing and adding more details about my life on my website.
My sophomore year I had some trouble with my classes because I started school around September due to the fact that I was supposed to be homeschooled, but that ended up not working out. I didn’t get any credits from homeschooling, so when I came back to LHS I had to start from the beginning and was super behind; thanks to the support of my teachers I was able to complete my classes on time before the school year was over. Now, my senior year is a bit more challenging, but I like to be challenged and be pushed to my full capacity. My classes have been good so far I like all of my teachers, most of them I’ve never seen in my 3 years in high school which is interesting because I will experience something new and learn in different ways than what I was used to with my old teachers. I’m really looking forward to all my senior classes, the most would be Pre-Calculus and Psychology; two of my favorite subjects just because it amazes me how much I can learn about math on a whole other level and how the human mind really works. It’s the beginning of the school year, so it’s impossible for me to be off pace on any of my classes. However, my goal for this year is to stay on top of my classes and give it my best.
Something new I will get to experience my senior year is a totally different schedule than what I was used to for 3 years. I thought having all our classes on a Monday would be a drag, but it helps a lot to get that one-on-one support from all our teachers in order to be prepared for the rest of the week.
After High School, I plan to go straight into a four year university and major in forensic science or become a nurse practitioner. It has always been a dream of mine to help people or to be able to analyze scientific evidence during an investigation involved in a criminal case. I’ve seen TV shows that involve forensic scientists and it’s caught my attention to learn more about it. Being a nurse anesthetist is also one of my options. I’ve had anesthesia administration on me several times, and instead of looking away I observe every detail. I have a lot of options to choose from, but I’m sure whatever I choose to be will be something that I’m very passionate about.

One Step Closer
Senior year has been a rollercoaster, a fun and stressful one. I’ve kept up in all my classes, I haven’t let myself fall behind because one minor setback and everything falls apart. One of the most challenging classes this year is PreCalculus, it’s a different math setting then what I’ve been used to. I’ve had the luck to understand everything that has been taught in that class. So far, I’ve passed every EOT with the highest score then most of my classmates.
My senior project has been a challenge on top of my classes. I procrastinated on my job shadow like most seniors. I was able to finish it over the summer before senior year began. I shadowed an elementary teacher that taught 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders (combined class). The experience was different than I thought, I realized that teaching isn’t really my thing. I enjoyed the experience because it opened my eyes to bigger possibilities to keep seeking for something that I would enjoy doing every single day for the rest of my life.
When CSU applications opened, I got right on it. I applied to Sacramento State, Stanislaus State, East Bay, and Chico State. My top school would be Sacramento State, I already got accepted at Stanislaus State, which is my second top choice. I’m really looking forward to hearing from my other choices. I’m looking forward to graduation and moving out and going to college with my friends. I am going to study to be a registered nurse and hopefully work in one of the best hospitals in California.
Almost To The Finish Line
Preparing for my Senior Exit Interview has been a mission. It takes a lot of effort and preparing in order to be ready for your exit interview. I’m doing Early Completion, which means I’m one of those lucky students who gets to do it before the rest of my class does it at the end of the year. Most students would think that doing Early Completion puts a lot of pressure on finishing your classes for first semester, but I actually finished most of my classes about a month earlier than expected and had a lot of time to finish my project. I’m both nervous and excited to be doing my Exit Interview. One, because it’s something I can get out of the way, and two, because I’m a very shy person and never have spoken in front of a crowd. I have to say, first semester was quick and easy. I finished most of my classes a month before the semester was over, which gave me more time to focus on the more long and complicated classes. It’s the last week of the semester and I’ve turned in all my assignments, all I need is to take the EOT’s to get my final grade. Second semester will be a bit more tough and not so quick, because I’m going to complete Physiology that I didn’t complete last year since I came to school two months into the semester. It’s going to take more time and effort, and procrastination is not an option. As hard as I worked in first semester, I want to do in second semester.
